Most people dread the question, “So, what salary are you looking for?”
The principles of negotiating hold true in any negotiating environment … whether you are negotiating for a car, a home, or your job. And when you learn the right way to negotiate, you will do well. This video will show you how to “play the game” and maximize your negotiating power to achieve the highest compensation package.
Why is the message not getting through? It would seem to be sensible if you really want that job to spend time on making sure you stand a chance of getting through the first hurdle of having your CV taken seriously.
I agree that is a major part of being successful in any job search campaign — one needs to properly “sell” their capabilities to a potential employer through an effective resume/CV.
That is why I have provided in-depth resume and letter writing video instruction and sample resumes in this website. Just go to the right column of this page under the heading “Information Based on Topic” and click “Resumes & Letters” to be given all of these free resources.
Very good points and excellent tutorial on salary negotiating tips for the interview. I am experiencing a very troubling phenom for the first time during this prolonged economic downturn. Large employers are utilizing a single channel for submission of CV’s for the entire staffing of the company and they are all using identical or very similar web based electronic CV submission software. This funnel does not permit the applicant to “distinguish himself / herself” during electronic upload of CV and cover letter. All positions across the company are being filled using this electronic filing procedure and the software requires you to enter a SALARY during submission of your CV. No salary NUMBER provided by applicant and no CV is accepted. You must complete all the entry fields before upload of the CV will take place. This means the HR based software can rank the applications based on who is desperate enough to “lowball” their salary requirements and they have it in writing with your CV submission. Dastardly and how to get around this dealbreaker data point?
I have been told that large company layoffs are taking place solely to allow company to churn out higher paid staffers and replace them with new hires at much lower wages. The process seems simple enough given that there are now at least 5 applicants for each position in many technical fields. Things are getting UGLY!
