So, what’s the first step?
The first step in conducting an effective job search is to create a plan. In it, we need to identify what types of companies and positions are of interest to you (your “target market”).
This video will show you exactly how to establish the foundation of your job search … Your Strategic Job Search Plan!

Hello Doug,
I really want to leave my current industry. That said, I am having difficulty identifying a position/ discipline in another industry. Do you have any advice on how to narrow it down? I have tried reading through internet job posting, yet cannot find anything that feels like a good fit.
Christy
Hi Christy,
You question is a common dilemma, so many people want a change (of industry/position) but don’t really know where to go. One good place to start is by looking at the industries listed on the downloadable SIC code sheet on this page — you may find something that sparks your interest. If you could let me know your background and current industry, I would be happy to offer my input and possible suggestions for you.
Thanks for this helpful info.
Hi Linda,
I am glad this helped and I wish you success!
This makes sense. I wasn’t properly planning my job search and making all kinds of mistakes. Now that I’ve got my goals established I am prepared and I look forward to going through the rest of the steps. Thanks!
Sarah, it is amazing how much more success you can achieve just by properly planning & executing an effective job search vs. hoping some job will find you in a help wanted ad. I know you will be successful!
Nice article thank you for sharing!
It is my pleasure Arianna!
